Safe Cooling
RiteTemp Medical Products are the safe alternative to ice and frozen gel because they don't create temperatures cold enough to cause tissue damage.

Frostbite occurs when the skin temperature is brought to 32 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. At these temperatures the fluids inside the body can literally freeze, disrupting cellar membranes. Similar damage in the form of non-freezing cold injury also occurs in this temperature range.

Because the temperature of melting ice is also 32 degrees, traditional ice therapy (whether using ice, or gel packs which can be even colder) carries a very real risk of causing harm. Although ice can bring tissue temperatures cold enough to be of therapeutic value, it can also bring them too cold - cold enough to do more harm than good. For this reason, it is always necessary to use insulation between ice and skin, and to limit treatment times to 20 minutes or less.

The use of ice to provide cool therapy can be compared to the use of a blow-torch to dry hair. It can be made to work, but because the blowtorch is much hotter than necessary, it can cause damage if used for too long or too close to the hair or head.

RiteTemp Medical Products do not contain ice. Their active ingredient, HTF Exotherm delivers self-regulated heat absorption which lowers the temperature of treated tissues only as far as the optimal therapeutic cooling range. There is no need to limit the length of cool therapy with RiteTemp Medical Products, or to insulate them from the skin.
